Our guide on how to use the SDM Fuel Solutions sample kits
SDM Fuel Solutions Fuel Sampling Kits are a product which allows customers to sample their own fuel and carry out a basic visual analysis. Below we have put together our own step by step guide on how to use our SDM Fuel Solutions Sampling Kit.
Before taking any samples, you must make sure that the area you will be extracting the fuel sample from is clean and free of loose contaminants ie: Dust, rust and anything that could contaminate the sampling procedure. Have a spill mat ready and ensure the sample pots are correctly labelled. We advise that 5 point PPE (Gloves ,steel toe cap boots, eye protection, hi-vis, hard hat) are worn along with any site specific PPE.
Once your workspace is set up, remove the SDM Fuel Solutions fuel sampler from the case and ensure that the dipping tape is securely attached to the top of the sampler using the attached clip.
Slowly lower the sampler into the fuel tank using a spare 1 inch port on the tank or any other access points, it is crucial that the fuel sampler is lowered into the fuel and not the bund. When the fuel sampler hits the bottom of the tank, leave it there for no longer than 5 seconds to allow the valve to open and the fuel to fill the inside of the sampler. When the sampler is reeled back up, the valve will close trapping the fuel in the sampler.
Once you have removed the sampler from the tank, place the fuel sampler into the sterile container. The fuel will be released from the sampler once it hits the bottom of the pot, you may need to repeat these steps to obtain a full sample. You have now taken your fuel sample. Compare your fuel sample to the SDM Fuel Solutions Comparison chart to evaluate the quality of your fuel.
For a further analysis of your fuel sample you can arrange for SDM Fuel Solutions to analyse your fuel and provide a fuel analysis report. Please send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will arrange collection of the fuel sample and have the laboratory analysis returned to you 72 hours after receiving the sample.
We can then provide any remedial recommendations for any type of contamination for you.
