The UK has strict regulations in place for the handling, storage, and transportation of fuel. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for enforcing these regulations, which are designed to ensure the safety of workers, the public, and the environment.
The main regulations governing fuel in the UK include the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations, the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR), and the Petroleum (Consolidation) Regulations. These regulations cover a wide range of areas, including the design and construction of fuel storage tanks, emergency planning and response, and the training and qualifications required for workers handling fuel.
In addition to these regulations, the UK also follows European Union directives related to fuel quality and emissions. The European Union has established standards for the quality of petrol and diesel, as well as limits on the levels of pollutants that can be emitted by vehicles.
At SDM Fuel Solutions, we understand the importance of complying with all fuel regulations in the UK. Our team of experts is trained and qualified to handle all aspects of fuel storage, handling, and transportation in compliance with current regulations.

From April 1st 2022 many industries will not be able to use Red Diesel and will need to use alternative fuels such as HVO or GTL, see here for more information on to transition.
Standard Red Diesel and Road Diesel currently must comply to BS2869 and EN590 standards respectively. These standards determine the quality of the fuel and specifically what specification they must meet to be used in each application.
