WHAT IS FUEL POLISHING?
Fuel polishing is a term used for filtering contaminated fuel. It’s designed to separate contaminants such as water,
microbial growth and other contaminants that may cause damage to your engine or prevent it from starting.
FUEL FILTRATION
Fuel Filtration is a process SDM Fuel Solutions use to remove contaminated fuel from a tank. This involves inserting lances into the tank
and circulating the fuel through water, microbial growth and particulate filter media. This process is repeated until all contaminants are
removed and the fuel is back to safe operation specification. This is combined with sampling and laboratory analysis.
WORRIED ABOUT BUSINESS RESILIENCE?
Fuel polishing will not impact on your business resilience as only a small amount of fuel will leave the tank. Dirty
fuel is passed through filtration, cleaned and returned back to the tank this process is continued until the fuel becomes
clean and contaminants are separated out the fuel.

WHEN IS FUEL POLISHING/ RECOVERY NOT SUFFICIENT?
Fuel polishing on large square or rectangle tanks is not advised unless the level of contamination is low. This
is due to the fact that access to the tank bottom is restricted by the many support beams in square and rectangle
tanks. Fuel polishing on these tanks is not advised as you cannot be certain all contaminants are removed. Fuel
polishing on cylindrical tanks is possible as the contaminants will be centred at the bottom of the tank, allowing for easy removal.
